Q4 of 17 Page 13

Visit a green house if there is one near your place. Observe how they raise plants and write how they regulate the amount of light, water and carbon dioxide to grow the plants.

Greenhouse is a transparent structure made of glass that aims at increasing the inner temperature of the structure. It helps to grow plants in cold weather by providing regulated conditions.

i. Light: a greenhouse is constructed in such a way that it traps maximum sunlight. The walls of it reflect a large amount of trapped light.

ii. Water: for regulating water requirements, capillary mats are used. These mats ensure that the plants receive adequate water supply. Also, excessive water is re-used.

iii. Carbon dioxide: for circulating air properly, fans are placed horizontally that ensures plants get enough CO2. Sometimes, compressed CO2 is used.

iv. A picture of greenhouse is attached here for your reference.

Tomatoes are the most common greenhouse crop.

Cucumbers, spinach, and lettuce are some of the profitable crops grown in a greenhouse.
