How does judiciary play an important role in the Indian federation?

The Supreme Court of India was inaugurated on January 28th 1950. It is the Federal court of the country and also a final court of appeal.

As a federal court, the Supreme Court has to decide several disputes between the states. The Supreme court has exclusive rights over these cases, i.e. no other court could decide in such disputes.


1. It decides the disputes between the Centre and one or more states.


2. It decides the disputes between the Centre and any state or states in one states and one or more states on another.


3. It decides the disputes between two or more states.
