What events led to the annexation of Punjab after the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh?

Annexation of Punjab:

1. By 1843, the British had taken over Afghanistan and Sind because they feared Russia’s expansion.


2. Ranjit Singh’s presence stopped the East India Company from taking over Punjab.


3. After his death in 1839, the British fought two long wars with the Sikh kingdom. (Anglo- Sikh Wars)


4. Punjab was finally annexed in 1949.
