The three Indian rulers who became victims of British annexation policies were:


I. Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi – The Queen of Jhansi, Lakshmibai demanded from the company to make her son the legal heir of the throne after her husband’s death. She also supported the mutiny by sepoys and died fighting along with the General of Nana Saheb, Tantia Tope in 1858.


II. Nana Sahib - Nana Sahib of Kanpur, proclaimed himself as Peshwa after removing the British army from the city. He was the son of Peshwa Bajirao II. He participated in the mutiny. But the victory of Britishers led to the annexation of the most of territories.


III. Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh – they annexed Awadh as they stated that they are ‘obliged to duty’ to protect the people of Awadh from the misgovernment of the Nawabs, so they annexed Awadh, on the basis of mismanagement.
