Q1 of 5 Page 23

What is the difference between discrimination and stereotypes?

Discrimination – Treating someone differently in an unfair manner on the basis of caste, social status, creed, etc. It happens when people act on their prejudices. E.g. When some people are stopped from entering temples or religious places, denied certain jobs, etc.

Stereotypes – When we set a certain image of someone in our minds, it is called stereotyping. It stops us from looking at the unique qualities of a person and his/her skills. E.g. When people think that those belonging to a certain community or religion are lazy or unhygienic, etc.
