Why can’t modern democracies exist without political parties? Explain any four reasons.

Democracy is a form of governance that works on the idea of involving people in the decision making of the country. Political parties definitely help in this aspect because:

1. In a country with such a high rate of population, each individual’s voice cannot be heard. Political parties help to voice out opinions through a single forum

2. Each political party represents a certain community, language or culture. So the views of the community can be heard more effectively.

3. As democracy is a very open form of governance, keeping the government at power in check becomes very difficult. The political parties serve as good critics and keep the government in check.

4. They also serve as a medium between the government and the people at grass root levels, making the entire governing process more efficient.
