Both Buddhism and Jainism were against the caste system. What do you think was wrong with the caste system?

The Puranas have laid down that to receive God's grace one need not belong to upper caste. This idea became very popular, and the Buddhists and Jainas too adopted this belief.

1. The Caste system had divided the society into lower caste and upper caste.

2. The upper caste was treated as untouchables. They were restricted at most of the public places including temples.

3. They were assigned a lower level of tasks and were not allowed to perform any other job.

4. This unequal and unethical treatment frustrated the people, and later the groups and sects involved in Bhakti movement were against the caste system.
