As there are 9 distinct letters in “PROBABILITY” (P,R,O,B,A,I,L,T,Y).


∴ A single letter can be selected in 9 ways.


As there are 3 vowels in “PROBABILITY”.


∴ 1 vowel can be selected in 3 ways


∴ P(selected letter is vowel) = 3/9 = 1/3
