Give some key features of federalism.

The system of government where the power is divided among the central authority, and various constituent units of the country are referred to as Federalism. There are two levels of government under this – one, at the national level or for an entire country who discusses major subject based on national interest; another is at the state or at province level, who takes care of the administration of their state. The key features of the Federalism are as follows –


• There are two or more levels of government in the federation.


• The government at different levels rules the same citizens, but their area of jurisdiction or legal authority is different like deals with the matters of legislation, taxation, and administration.


• The Constitution mentions the jurisdiction of the respective levels of the government. Thus, the authority or power of each level is Constitutionally guaranteed.


• The fundamental provisions mentioned in the Constitution cannot be changed by anyone level but requires the consent of all the levels of the government.


• Courts have the power and authority to interpret the Constitution and the power of the different levels. Is any conflict or dispute arises between the different levels, the court acts on them and tries to resolve the issue.


• Also, the sources of revenue of each level are mentioned so to maintain financial autonomy.


• The two objectives of the federal system are to safeguard and promote the unity of the country, and also encourage regional diversity.
