Two circular pieces of equal radii and maximum area, touching each other are cut out from a rectangular card board of dimensions 14 cm × 7 cm. Find the area of the remaining card board. [use π = (22/7)]

From the fig.-

Length of card board = 14 cm


Breadth of card board = 7 cm


Total Area of Card Board = 14 × 7 = 98 sq. cm


and, Diameter of each circle = 7 cm


Area of each Circle = π× r× r = (22/7) × (7/2)2 = (77/2) sq. cm


Area of Remaining Card Board


= Total Area of Card Board-2× Area of each circle


= 98-2× (77/2)


= 98-77


= 21 sq. cm
