How is the mining activity injurious to the health of the miners and environment? Explain. (CBSE 2015)

Mining is injurious to miners and environment because:

1. The dust and noxious fumes from the mining areas can cause pulmonary diseases for those inhaling it.

2. There’s a constant risk of collapsing mine roofs, inundations, and fires in the area.

3. The water sources in the area get polluted due to mining and dumping of waste.

Explanation: Mining is referred to as ‘killer industry’ because it adversely affects the environment and also the health of the workers there.
