Diseases which are transmitted from an infected person to a healthy person due to sexual contact are called sexually transmitted diseases or STD.

Examples of STDs caused by-


(i) Bacterial infection- Gonorrhoea and Syphilis


(ii) Viral infection- AIDS and Herpes


Contraceptive devices such as condoms can prevent the spread of such diseases.
