Hence x – y = -1 and 2x – y = 0


As 2x – y = 0 ⇒ 2x = y


⇒ x – 2x = -1


⇒ -x = -1


⇒ x = 1


Put x = 1 in x – y = -1


⇒ 1 – y = -1


⇒ y = 2


Hence x + y = 3
