Explain any six points of new criteria for becoming a permanent or Non-permanent member of Securing Council as proposed by members of UN since 1997.

Explain non-traditional notions of human security and the global security.

After the 1992 revolution over the reform in UN, there are certain criteria that have been proposed for new permanent and non-permanent members of the security council. They are:


A new member should be:-


1) A major economic and military power. It must also be a big nation in terms of population.


2) A substantial contributor to the UN budget.


3) A promoter of democracy and human rights.


4) A country that would help the council to become the representative of the world’s diversity in terms of economy, geography as well as culture.


OR


It includes a wide range of threats and dangers affecting the conditions of human existence. Main proponents of non-traditional are not just the state but also individuals or communities or indeed all of human kind. Therefore, it has been called human security or global security. In non-traditional notion, threats may be such as terrorism, human rights, global poverty, etc.
