Two numbers are in the ratio 5:3. If they differ by 18, what are the numbers?

Let the common ratio be x.

Then, the numbers are 5 x and 3 x.

Given: Difference of numbers is 18

Now,

5 x – 3 x = 18

2 x = 18

Therefore, one number is 5 × 9 = 45 and other number is 3 × 9 = 27.
