Q14 of 51 Page 2

The difference between the squares of two consecutive numbers is 31. Find the numbers.

Let the two consecutive numbers are x - 1 and x

According to the question:

x2 - (x2 - 2x + 1) = 31

[As, (a - b)2 = a2 + b2 + 2ab]

2x = 32

x = 16

Therefore two consecutive numbers are: (16 - 1) and 16 =  15 and 16
