Dear Pelham

I'm extremely sorry to hear about your untimely retirement from cricket. This was not supposed to happen like this. You've always been a great wicketkeeper; your team looked up at you as an inspiration. I don't think you've done any justice with yourself as well as with your fellow mates by quitting the game.

I have seen what you went through on the ground during the match. Yes, it was a tough moment. I mean, it's not easy to take up all the murmurings and allegations for such a small mistake. As a friend, I could make out that you were lost into some other thoughts when the catch got missed. I'm sure you'd have regretted not paying attention. But my friend, please do keep this in mind that it was just another catch of your life. It's okay to sometimes make mistakes. When the crowd started mocking and howling, I felt really bad because of the insensitivity of people. The same people offer you the throne when you win, and growl at you upon defeat. This should not break your confidence my friend. I saw how everyone rejoiced at the thought of the loss of a wicket, even the bowler reacted instantly with a happy cry, but nobody tried to console you by saying that its okay to make such petty mistakes.

My friend, I don't want you to lose hope and quit your passion, for to err is human. Please understand that life doesn't end here. You have to stay strong and show the world that you are not affected by little defeats. Please don't underrate yourself, you have brought many victories to the team, and the team needs you. These things do happen, never mind. I suggest you think about your decision again, and not go for something which you never fancied just as a punishment for yourself.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

With love

Akanksha
