The media attention given to celebrities suggests that these people are today's heroes. Yet ordinary people perform extraordinary acts of courage everyday that go virtually unnoticed.

Consider heroism and whether you agree or disagree with media's interpretation.

• who you think our heroes

• think about the qualities

Present your views to the class as a speech or an interview.

Good morning respected teacher, and my dear mates. Today I stand here to present my views on 'Heroism and its media interpretation'.

The definition of heroism seemed to be changing along with the ongoing trends in the media. Be it the print media, television or social media, our minds are occupied with the ideas that we perceive through these channels. In today's world of viral videos and memes, anything becomes a matter of heroism. The media glorifies the person behind it and give them the title of a celebrity. But, do these celebrities actually deserve the recognition that we give them?

When we hear the word 'hero', we think of the people we see inside our idiot box who entertain us with their impressive looks and heroic stunts. Their star-studded life gives us major goals, and we follow them blindly. But little do people understand, that they are just there to entertain us. The real heroism comes from real heroic acts, which generally go unnoticed by the ordinary people because they do not boast of their courage. There are people who are silently saving lives sitting there inside a fire brigade vehicle, or inside an operation theatre. There are those unspoken fighters, who are struggling with the rapists to save someone's sister from getting molested. There are those poor kids, who share their meal with stray dogs, in spite of having so little for themselves. There are those unnoticed parents, who have adopted a child to make his future, in spite of being able to produce one of their own. So many such people, who are dedicating their lives to someone else, are being overlooked, and their little acts of heroism go unnoticed.

I personally do not agree with the media's interpretation of actual heroism. It has not been long since the nation has witnessed the unfortunate incident of the Pulwama attack. These are the real warriors, the real heroes of the country, who give their lives to save ours. The security forces, the pride of the nation take up the media attention for a while, and again the focus shifts to the entertainment world. This takes up their whole credit, and does injustice to them, for the world should know their acts of bravery and recognize them, rather than glorifying those whose work does a very little benefit for the country.
