Topic: Say No to Tobacco

Good morning to one and all present here. Today I, Shalini, of Greenfields Public School, would like to take this opportunity on the occasion of No Tobacco Day to talk about the deleterious effects that tobacco in all its forms has on each of us.

Tobacco is derived from the plant Nicotiana tobaccum, and contains a large variety of chemicals, most notable being nicotine. It is highly addictive and is the most abused substance in India and worldwide. It is smoked as cigarette, chewed with betel nut, or sniffed as tobacco powder. However the substance enters out body, it can have many adverse effects.

Tobacco is directly linked to increased incidence of lung, mouth and throat cancer. Passive smoking, too, increases this risk. Smoking can cause emphysema, precipitate asthma and lead to breathlessness. Chronic use of tobacco causes accumulation of harmful chemicals in our body and can cause degeneration of lung tissue.

The government has ordained a statutory warning to be printed on all tobacco products. However, lack of knowledge and understanding, as well as factors such as peer pressure, addiction and curiosity has led to these warnings being ignored and use of tobacco continues.

I urge each and every one of you to take it upon oneself to spread the message of the danger that tobacco brings and help people who are addicted to it. Today, and forever more, let us say no to tobacco.

Tips:

1. Start with introducing yourself.

2. Body of speech must contain the information that you wish to put across.

3. End the speech with a definitive concluding statement.

4. Do not drag the speech. Be specific to the topic.

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Republic Day Celebration Program. I, Shalini, of Greenfields Public School, am honored to be given this opportunity to speak today before you all.

We all have been suffering due to the incessant rains and are complaining about the dampness. But while we crib about our problems, the Army is still at work.

The Army recently launched ‘Operation Megh Rahat’ in Naoshera, Rajouri, Thanamandi and Poonch districts of

Jammu and Kashmir in coordination with the civil authorities for search, rescue

and relief of people. Here is a picture of two army officials helping a woman. This picture moved me as it made me realise the sacrifices our soldiers have to make to serve the country.

They have been working day and night without rest for the past few weeks to ensure the safety of the citizens of this country. We must feel very proud of these soldiers who are putting their lives at risk to save ours.

The soldiers are paid very less and are not treated with the required dignity and hence, they do not enjoy the beauty of their work. They are not congratulated enough on their successes. We must try to remember the sacrifices made by these people and be grateful because the peaceful life we lead is at the cost of the lack of theirs.

On this Republic Day, let us celebrate our soldiers and their successes. Let us spend a moment to pray for the fallen soldiers and their families. Let us take a moment to think about the life they live and how we could make it slightly better by looking up to them and appreciating them.

Jai Hind.
