What is the separation of powers? Explain in the Indian context.

● According to the constitution, there are three organs of the state.

● These are the Legislature, the executive and the judiciary.

● The legislature refers to the elected representatives. They have the responsibility to formulate laws.

● An executive is a group of people who have the responsibility to implement these laws.

● The Judiciary is a system of courts in the country. Any dispute arising can be settled in this organ.

● All three organs act as a check on the other organs of the state.

● This helps to ensure the balance of power in the country.

● This type of system has a two-fold advantage.

● It helps to avoid the misuse of power as it is not constituted in any one authority.
