What is the difference between State and Government?








































STATE



GOVERNMENT





State ahs multiple elements such as territorial area, population, including government etc.



Government is only one element of the state.



Government is an agency of the state.



Government exercises authority on behalf of the State.



State is an abstract concept which is used to denote a community of people living in an area.



Government is a team of people working for the state and is thus, a definite concept.



State constitutes the entire population of people living in the area.



Government is made by the elected representatives of the people through the election process.



Membership to the state is automatic. Once a person is born into a particular state, he/ she gets a birth certificate for the same.



Membership of the government is not automatic. One has to go through a careful screening process to take part in the elections.



Sovereignty is the hallmark of the State



Government uses it on the behalf of the State.



The territorial area is the right of the State.



Government must preserve, protect and promote this area.
