Bhakti movement emerged in eighth-century in south india now Tamilnadu and Kerala and spread northward. It was social and religious reform movement.

Popular saints of bhakti movement are-

Ramanuja-he was the earliest exponent of Bhakti movement. He was born in south India in 1017 AD. Ramanuja gave philosophic basis to the teachings of Vaishnavism and built up the philosophy of vishishtadwaita.

Nimbarka- he was contemporary of Ramanuja rendered great service to the spread of Bhakti movement. He wrote Dasa-sloki.

Madhva- he was also devotee of vishnu and also belongs from south india. He wrote four bhasyas on Bramhsutra.
