Q3 D of 18 Page 137

Answer the following in 5-6 sentences each:

Why population growth is high in developing countries?

The economy of the country moves from underdeveloped to developing to a developed nation. During the underdevelopment phase due to high illiteracy rate and poor medical facilities, death and birth rate both are high so population growth rate is low, but during the development phase, the government spend money on better health facilities to provide better care to pregnant woman, better facilities for old people and newborn, due to which death rate falls down. Maternal mortality rate declined from 398 in 1997-98 to 167 in 2012, birth rate also fall down but relatively at very less rate so overall due to less death rate and still high birth rate, population growth rate is high during the developing phase. Countries which are in developing phase are called developing countries. When a country become a developed nation, due to good literacy rate, birth also comes down and then overall population growth rate reduces.
