Main Recommendations of Wood’s Despatch

• According to the despatch, the responsibility of education in India lies on British government


• Despatch defined the aim of education in which Britishers wanted to raise the intellectual level and moral character of Indians.


• The despatch emphasised the importance of the oriental language. Mr. Wood recognized the usefulness of western knowledge for Indians.


• The despatch recommended that medium of instruction should be in English.


• The Department Of Public instruction should be established in every province to inspect the schools and to guide teachers.


• The Despatch recommended the establishment of Universities in Presidency towns of Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras.
