When was the English Education Act introduced? What were its features?

English Education Act was introduced by William Bentinck in 1835. He accepted the Macaulay’s recommendations.

Its features were-


The decision was taken that medium of instruction was English in higher education institutions.


To no longer promote oriental institutions such as the Calcutta madrasa and Banaras Sanskrit College.


To introduce English text books in schools.
