Describe briefly about dam and its features.

Dam is a barrier that stops the flow of water. Dam refers to the reservoir rather than the structure. Reservoirs created by dams suppress floods. It also provides water for activities such as irrigation, human consumption, industrial use and aquaculture. It is used to collect water which can be evenly distributed between locations. Dams are classified as timber dams, embankment dams or masonry dams on the basis of structure and material used.
