Mention the need for conservation and management of water resources.

Water is necessary for life on earth. It is believed that life originated in water before it invaded the land. Water is a precondition of life. Water conservation means using less water or recycling used water so that it can be used again. Water resource management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing and managing the optimum use of water resources.

We need to conserve and manage the water resources because water is becoming a scarce resource. India is facing an acute shortage of water supply. Establishment of different industries has resulted in the further exploitation of water resources. The discharge of industrial effluents has also degraded the quality of water.

The total composition of water is about 70% but fresh water resources are only about 2%. With increasing population and day to day activities we need to conserve water. We need to conserve water for drinking purpose, irrigation and agricultural productions.
