Name major non-food crops and write two major states of their production respectively.

Two major Non-food crops are as follows:-

• Cotton- Cotton is the most important fibre used in making clothing. It is grown as an annual crop. The main area where cotton is grown in central and southern India is Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Karnataka produces two-thirds of the cotton grown in southern India.


• Jute- Jute is a long, soft, shiny fibre that can be spun into coarse strong threads. Both the fibre and the plant from which it comes are commonly called jute. It is known as ‘golden fibre’ because of its colour. The main areas where Jute is grown are The Ganga-Brahmaputra valley and the delta in West Bengal. It is also grown in the deltas of the river Mahanadi and river Godavari. Bihar, Jharkhand Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Odisha. Assam is the second largest producer of Jute.
