The stages of German unification-

• At the Parliament of Frankfurt in 1848, the liberals were failed to unify Germany under a constitutional monarchy.

• The rulers themselves wanted to unify Germany into a militaristic empire under Prussia.

• They led the movement with its chief minister Otto von Bismarck.

• Bismarck followed the policy of war called ‘Policyof Blood and Iron’. He successfully fought three wars in seven years.

• In 1871, the process of unification was completed and the Prussian King William I was proclaimed German Emperor.

• He was crowned in the French Palace of Versailles.
