Define watershed management.

Watershed management refers to the proper management, usage, and saving of the surface water and groundwater resources. It includes the prevention of surface runoff, storage of water and recharge of the groundwater cycle. This is done by various methods such as recharge well and percolation tank. It includes conservation, regeneration and judicious use of water resources.

It has mainly 2 aims:

a. To create a balance among the natural elements and in society.

b. To enable the villages to conserve water for drinking, irrigation etc

It has been successfully implemented in various areas such as

a. Haryali

b. Neeru Meeru program

c. Avari Pani Sansad

It has the following results:

a. It has led to an increased availability of water for drinking purposes.

b. It has led to an increased availability of water for irrigation purposes.

c. It has increased afforestation in these areas.
