‘The assessment, efficient use and conservation of water are necessary to ensure development’. This statement can be explained below:


a. India is primarily an agrarian country. A major population of the country depends upon agriculture for its livelihood. The water required for irrigation in agriculture is a lot. It also helps to increase the employment of the workers and ensure the development of the economy.


b. The population of India is increasing continuously. The percentage of fresh water available in India is not enough to meet the demands of the ever-increasing population. It is extremely important to create awareness among people.


c. Water is a precious resource. Our country cannot develop without conserving its water resources. Sustainable development also requires the need for conserving the water. We should use water in a judicious manner so that it is available sufficiently for the present generation as well as for future generations.


d. India has only 4% of the total water resources and has 16% of the total world's population. Due to the topographical and hydrological conditions, only 32% of the available surface water can be utilized.
