(i) Which one of the following is a polysaccharide : starch, maltose, fructose, glucose

(ii) Write one difference between -helix and -pleated sheet structures of protein.

(iii) Write the name of the disease caused by the deficiency of vitamin B12.

(i) Polysaccharides are carbohydrates which yield a large number of monosaccharide units on hydrolysis. Starch is a polysaccharide, maltose is oligosaccharide and fructose, glucose are monosaccharide.

(ii) One difference between -helix and -pleated sheet structures of protein is that in β-structure all peptide chains are held together by intermolecular hydrogen bonds and in -helix peptide chains are held together by intramolecular hydrogen bonds.

(iii) Anemia is the disease caused by the deficiency of vitamin B12.
