How are electromagnetic waves produced? What is the source of the energy carried by a propagating electromagnetic wave? Identify the electromagnetic radiations used

(i) in remote switches of household electronic devices; and


(ii) as diagnostic tool in medicine.


Electromagnetic waves can be produced by accelerating a charged particle so that both magnetic and electric fields do not remain constant over time. Thus, giving rise to electric and magnetic field waves, travelling perpendicular to each other.

Energy of this accelerated/oscillating charged particle is the source of the energy of these electromagnetic waves.


(i) Infrared radiations-in remote switches


(ii) X-rays- as diagnostic tool in medicine
