Mahatma Gandhi organised Satyagraha for the first time in India in 1916 in the Champaran district of Bihar.

NOTE – Mahatma Gandhi was known for his non-violent methods of seeking justice previously in the fight against racism. After coming from South Africa to India, he observed the divide that existed between people in Indian society. He strongly felt that the dharma of Ahimsa i.e. nonviolence was a powerful method in order to overthrow the British rulers and gain independence through mass agitations and demonstrations.
