Q22 of 59 Page 1

It is desired to obtain an erect image of an object, using concave mirror of focal length of 12 cm.

(i) What should be the range of distance of an object placed in front of the mirror? (ii) Will the image be smaller or larger than the object? Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image in this case.

(iii) Where will the image of this. object be, if it is placed 24 cm in front of the mirror? Draw a ray diagram for this situation also to justify your answer.

Show the positions of the pole, the principal focus and the center of curvature in the above ray diagrams.

(i) The range of the object distance when placed in front of the mirror is from 0 to 12 cm i.e. when object is placed between pole and focus of the mirror. The nature of the Image formed will be magnified, i.e., larger than the size of the object.

(iii) When the object is placed in front of the mirror i.e. at 2f position/ at center of curvature, the image will be formed at center of curvature of the mirror.

The real, inverted and same size (of the object) image will also be formed at 24 cm.
