3(1 - x) < 2(x + 4)

⇒ 3-3x < 2x + 8

⇒ 3 - 3x –3 < 2x + 8 - 3

⇒ -3x < 2x + 5

⇒ -3x – 2x < 2x + 5 – 2x

⇒ -5x < 5

⇒ (Rule 2)

⇒ x > -1

i. e., all real numbers x greater than –1 as shown on the number line.
