when conc. HNO3 Oxidises I2 the compound formed is iodic acid:

HIO3 [Iodic acid]. Iodic acid can be prepared by oxidation of iodine with fuming nitric acid. The stability of halic acids increases with the increase in atomic number of the halogen. The reaction is as follows:


I2 + 10HNO3 → 2HIO3 + 10 NO2 + 4H2O
