Q11 of 109 Page 3

If the sum of the zeros of the quadratic polynomial f (x) = kx2 — 3x + 5 is 1, write the value of k.

Given,

The quadratic polynomial f(x) = kx2 – 3x + 5
Now,

Let two zeroes be a and 1 – a

∵ Sum of zeroes = 1 and also 1 – a ˃ 0 ⇒ a ˂ 1

Therefore;

Sum of the zeroes = 3/k

⇒ a + (1 – a) = 3/k

⇒ 1 = 3/k

⇒ k = 3
