Q32 of 109 Page 3

If α, β are the zeros of the polynomial 2y2 + 7y + 5, write the value of α + β + αβ.

Given,

Polynomial 2y2 + 7y + 5

Zeroes = a, 13

Here a = 2

b = 7

c = 5

Lets take α and β are two zero,

So sum of the zeroes will be,

α + β = – b/a = – 7/2

Product of the zeroes = α. β = c/a = 5/2

Now put the values,

α + β + αβ = (α + β) αβ

= – 7/2 + 5/2 = – 2/2 = – 1
