“Don’t you worry, Pitaji! In your old age I will serve you and mother”. Through this statement the narrator wants to highlight the moral values Bholi was imbued with. Based on the reading of the lesson, what made Bholi aware of her rights and how did she use them?

Bholi was a very shy and cowardly child because she had marks on her face and stammered. But when she was admitted to school, her teacher encouraged her to speak up and gain more knowledge. Bholi became aware of her rights and abilities through schooling.

When she was being wed off, the man demanded a high dowry from her father because she was ugly. She spoke up then against the greed and heartlessness of the man. She saved her parents’ money and gave an apt answer to the shameless bridegroom.
