Q11 of 18 Page 1

Draw a pen portrait of Martha Washington.

Martha Washington is the daughter of a cook who worked for the Keller family. She and Helen grew up together as friends. They played and went around together. She was a very sensitive girl. She would understand everything that Helen said. Though others had a tough time understanding whatever Helen wanted to express, Martha didn’t take even a fraction of a second in doing so. They would knead dough balls, help in making ice-cream, grind coffee, and sometimes quarrel over cake-bowl.

Martha is a very understanding character. She doesn’t need any support in understanding the situations that Helen faces. She is also very passionate in keeping the friendship between her and Helen alive.

She didn’t look down on Helen because of her blindness. She treated Helen as an equal. This shows her open-mindedness too. She was a very sensitive human being.
