The product of four consecutive positive integers is 840. Find the numbers.

Given: four consecutive positive integers

Let four consecutive positive integers are a-1.5, a-0.5, a + 0.5 and a + 1.5.


Acc. To given condition:


(a-1.5)(a + 0.5)(a-0.5)(a + 1.5) = 840


= (a2-(1.5)2)(a2-(0.5)2) = 840


= a4 – 2.5 a2 – 0.5604 = 840


It will give the value of a = 5.5


Hence, the integers are :


a-1.5 = 5.5 – 1.5 = 4


a – 0.5 = 5.5 – 0.5 = 5


a + 0.5 = 5.5 + 0.5 = 6


a + 1.5 = 5.5 + 1.5 = 7
