Check whether the following are quadratic equation:

(x - 3)(2x + 1) = x(x + 5)

(x - 3)(2x + 1) = x(x + 5)

Here LHS = (x - 3)(2x + 1) = 2x2 - 6x + x - 3 = 2x2 - 5x - 3


RHS = x(x + 5) = x2 + 5x


Equating LHS and RHS


2x2 - 5x - 3 = x2 + 5x


x2 - 10x - 3 = 0 which is of the form ax2 + bx + c = 0


∴ it is a quadratic equation.
