Q3 of 58 Page 123

Is it possible to design a rectangular mango grove whose length is twice its breadth, and the area is 800m2? If so, find its length and breadth.

Let Breadth be x and length be 2x

Area = (Length × Breadth) = 800m2

2x2 = 800

⇒ x2 = 400

Discriminant = 4 × 1 × 400 = 1600

Hence it is possible

⇒ x = ±20

Neglecting the negative term we have,

Breadth = 20m

Length = 40m
