Arrhenius acid is a hydrogen-containing substance which produces hydrogen ion (H + ) in its aqueous solution.

Examples of two such acids are Nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.

Arrhenius base is hydroxide containing substance and which produces OH- ion in its aqueous solution.
