The area of the trapezium is 540 cm2. If the ratio of the parallel sides is 7:5 and the distance between them is 18 cm. Find the length of the parallel sides.

Let the length of the sides be 7k and 5k.


(where k is some arbitrary constant)


Area of the trapezium is given by

∴ side 7k = 7 × 5 = 35 and,


side 5k = 5 × 5 = 25


∴ Length of parallel sides is 35cm and 25cm.
