Q1 of 8 Page 142

Why did Mahatma Gandhi break the salt law?

Gandhi broke the salt law because of following reasons:

1. The British had declared a monopoly over the manufacturing of salt. Gandhi thought it was unfair to do so for such an essential item.

2. The salt was used by rich and poor alike so tax on salt was disliked by everyone.

3. Fighting against the salt law would bring together people from every group alike.
