Q2 of 8 Page 142

According to Gandhiji 'Satyagraha is not the weapons of the weak but the weapon of the strong-willed'. Do you agree with him? Give a reason to support your argument.

The term ‘Satyagraha’ means ‘holding firmly on to what is true or truth’. According to Gandhiji 'Satyagraha is not the weapons of the weak but the weapon of the strong-willed'. Yes, I completely agree with him because:

• From the time, Gandhiji came to India to support Indians to get the freedom he always believed in to stand upon what is right and true.

• Non-Cooperation movement, Civil Disobedience movement, salt Satyagraha, peasants movement, etc. – all these movements relied on what is believed to be satyagraha.

• The Indians who were fighting initially for their rights and freedom were not the weak but the strong-willed people who decided to end the rule of British. They used Satyagraha as their weapon which ultimately made them achieve independence. Even though, they were later supported by the other rich and authoritative people.

Thus, after studying all the incidents that made us achieve independence, we could clearly say that satyagraha along with ahimsa and the concept of Swadeshi is the weapon of the people with strong-willed.
