What is the difference between plasma membrane and cell wall? Give the functions of each one.

Plasma membrane

Cell Wall

It is a thin, elastic and delicate living membrane.

It is rigid and non-living outer covering of the plant cell.

It is made up of lipids and proteins.

It is mainly made up of cellulose.

It is present in both plant and animal cells.

It is present only in plant cells.

Its major function is to hold cellular contents and control passage of materials in and out of the cell.

Its major function is to provide protection and strength to the cell.

1. Plasma membrane is a selective permeable membrane which allows or permits the entry and exit of some materials in and out of the cell.
