If the following function is differentiable at x = 2, then find the values of a and b

Given information: f(x) is differentiable at x = 2


Since the function is differentiable therefore it should be continuous at x =2


Applying the continuity condition,





Also since it is differentiable,


Left hand derivative = Right hand derivative






Since b = 4 – 2a



a=4


Also b=4–2a


b = 4–2×4


b = –4.


Hence the values of a and b are 4 and –4 respectively.
